In 2008, a pseudonymous software developer named Satoshi Nakamoto proposed bitcoin as an electronic payment system based on mathematical proof. We sought to create a means of exchange that was independent of centralized control, that could be transferred electronically in a secure, verifiable, and immutable manner.
