What is an affinity credit card?
An affinity credit card is a type of credit card that bears the name and logo of the organization on its surface. When a financial institution collaborates with such an organization to create an affinity credit card, the financial institution usually offers the organization some kind of monetary incentive for each credit card opened.
Affinity credit cards are similar to co-branded credit cards in the sense that two organizations, a financial institution and a brand, collaborate to issue a credit card that benefits both. However, while co-branded credit cards are typically issued by for-profit organisations, affinity credit cards, with a few exceptions, are typically issued by nonprofit organisations.
An affinity credit card is a specialized type of credit card that is co-branded with a particular organization, charity, or cause. These cards are designed to appeal to individuals who support that specific cause or organization. With an affinity credit card, cardholders can show their allegiance by carrying a card that features the logo or image associated with the affiliated group. Additionally, a portion of the card's transaction fees or a percentage of the cardholder's purchases may be donated to the affiliated organization. This symbiotic relationship allows consumers to support their chosen cause while enjoying the benefits of a traditional credit card.
