Who is Jerome Powell?

Jerome Powell is a Georgetown University law graduate with a B.A. in politics from Princeton University.

Powell was appointed to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors by President Barack Obama in 2011, and he took office the following year. He was nominated and confirmed for a second 14-year term in 2014.

Powell was nominated by President Trump to serve as Chair of the Federal Reserve System's Board of Governors in November 2017.

Powell has been described as both a dove and a neutral on monetary policy, as well as a sceptic of quantitative easing.

He takes over for Janet Yellen, who served from 2014 to 2018.
