What is the Master Candle strategy in forex?
The Master Candle strategy is a forex trading approach that focuses on identifying a large candlestick, known as the Master Candle, followed by several smaller candles that remain within its high and low range. This formation suggests a period of market consolidation, where buyers and sellers are temporarily balanced. Traders then watch for a breakout above or below the Master Candle’s range as a potential trading signal.

When price breaks above the Master Candle high, traders may interpret it as bullish momentum and look for a potential long entry. Conversely, a break below the Master Candle low may indicate bearish momentum and create a potential short setup. Some traders wait for the breakout candle to close outside the range or for price to retest the broken level before entering, which can help reduce exposure to false breakouts.

Risk management is an important part of this strategy. Traders commonly place a stop-loss beyond an appropriate technical level and determine position size according to their acceptable risk. Profit targets can be based on the size of the Master Candle range, nearby support and resistance, or a predetermined risk-to-reward ratio.

The strategy can be applied across different forex timeframes, although its effectiveness can vary with market conditions, volatility, and currency pair. Like any technical setup, Master Candle breakouts can produce false signals, so traders often combine the pattern with trend analysis, price action, volume where available, or other technical indicators. Backtesting and disciplined execution can help traders understand how the strategy performs under different conditions.
