What is the fractal model in trading?
The Fractal Model in trading is an approach to market analysis based on the idea that price movements often form repeating patterns across different timeframes. These patterns can help traders understand market structure, identify potential turning points, and recognise possible trend continuation or reversal opportunities. The concept is closely related to fractal geometry, which studies patterns that display similar characteristics at different scales.

In technical analysis, traders often use fractal patterns to identify local highs and lows. A common example is the Bill Williams Fractal Indicator, which identifies a potential bullish fractal when a candle has a lower low than the two candles on either side. A bearish fractal forms when a candle has a higher high than the two candles before and after it. These patterns can highlight possible support and resistance levels.

Some traders also apply the broader Fractal Model to multi-timeframe analysis. They examine higher timeframes to understand the overall market direction and lower timeframes to find potential entry points. This approach can be combined with price action, moving averages, Fibonacci levels, and volume analysis to strengthen trading decisions.

However, fractal patterns do not guarantee future price movements. Signals may appear late because confirmation requires additional candles, and false signals can occur in volatile or sideways markets. Traders should therefore use proper risk management, establish clear stop-loss levels, and test their strategies before risking real money.

Overall, the Fractal Model offers a structured way to study repeating market behaviour and price movements. When applied carefully alongside other analytical tools, it can help traders develop a more consistent approach to identifying trading opportunities in forex, stocks, commodities, and cryptocurrency markets.
