Infiltrating digital devices such as computers, smartphones, tablets, and sometimes even entire networks is considered hacking. Furthermore, while hacking may not necessarily be malicious, it has been defined by most links to hacking and hackers as an illegal activity, driven by monetary gain, anger, gaining access to sensitive information, or even for the "joy." As long as access control has been around, hacking will be around as long as computing technologies are around. Even before the widespread use of the internet, password-protected computers were being hacked.
